Drawing a Simple Butterfly
I am super stoked to share this butterfly tutorial with you! There are many creative ways to color in your butterfly, so feel free to make changes to the final appearance. I say go wild with it.
To follow along with this butterfly drawing tutorial, you should use the blue lines as your reference. The blue lines in each step indicate what part of the butterfly you should be drawing. For example, you will see that the body of your butterfly is blue in the second step. This means that you should be drawing the body once you get to that particular step.

How to Draw a Butterfly Step-by-Step Tutorial
Now, we can start our butterfly drawings! Follow the steps below to create your own cute butterfly cartoon drawing. Enjoy!
Step 1: Draw the Face of Your Butterfly
Draw a small circle to make the head of your butterfly.
Step 2: Draw the Body of Your Butterfly
Create the body of your butterfly by drawing a long oblong type shape, like the one shown above. This shape should be connected to the circular head you just drew.
Step 3: Draw the Body Details of Your Butterfly
Draw in the details of your butterfly's body by creating four horizontal lines. The lines should have a slight curve with the ends pointed upwards.
Step 4: Draw Some Antennas
Draw some cute antennas for your butterfly by adding two curly lines on each side of the head.
Step 5: Draw Your Butterfly's Top Wings
Time for some gorgeous wings! There will be two sets of wings. Two wings will be the top wings and then, later, you will draw a pair of bottom wings as well. So make sure to leave some extra space at the bottom of your butterfly's body.
Step 6: Draw Your Butterfly's Bottom Wings
Now that those top wings are in, we can draw the bottom wings I was talking about. These will connect to the body of your butterfly as well as the top wings.
Step 7: Draw the Details of Your Butterfly Wings
Now, we will get into the details of your butterfly wings. Draw a pair of curvy lines, like the ones shown above.
Step 8: Draw Three Circles On Each Top Wing
The next detail of your butterfly wings will be some circles. Draw in three circles arranged vertically on both top wings of your butterfly.
Step 9: Draw Two Circles On Each Bottom Wing
For the bottom wings, draw two pairs of circles on each.
Step 10: Finished!
You are finished. Congrats! 🙂 If you would like to color in your butterfly, you can do so now. Not sure what colors to choose? No worries. Proceed to step 11 to see an example of a finished colored butterfly drawing.
Step 11: Color in Your Butterfly (Optional)
There it is, you're colored butterfly.
